Stitch Vs. Glue Comparison

Justin asks:

Do you know where I could find a comparison study for stitch verse glue joints?

It is possible that my Corrugated Board Technical Committee at TAPPI has shared such findings in the past. I reviewed George Maltenfort’s works and the FBA Handbook for such a comparison. There was nothing definitely expressed in those documents. Item 222 does call for one hundred percent glue coverage on a glue tab for a box to be in compliance to meet the rule.

Can you give me some background to your question? Certainly the surface characteristics of linerboards may be more challenging today than in the past because of the inclusion of foreign fibers into our “domestic” mix.

I’ll contact some of my associates at the adhesive and application companies and see if they have any further information.

Stay Tuned!
