U.S. spec for composition and recyclability

Tommy asks:

I have been asked by a customer this question.
What is the USA specification for composition and recyclability for corrugated box paper?
Hope you can help.

It is difficult to read between the lines and determine what your customer is really trying to discern. Unlike Europe we do not have any “specification” for the amount of secondary fibre in corrugated packaging or its recyclability. We collect greater than 80% old corrugated containers and the average amount of recovered fibre in US manufactured corrugated boxes is greater than 46%. Some waxed corrugated is unable to be recycled and ends up in landfills or as fuel pellets.

Below are two web links to explore. If they don’t address your customer’s concern, please come back to me.
